A year
Yeardle, Chrondle and Guess The Date narrow down a date.
Wordle works because it is one shared puzzle a day, a few guesses, feedback after each one and a result you can share. These history games borrow that formula for years, people, events and places.

In 1453, this city became the capital of the Ottoman Empire after a pivotal siege.
Yeardle is the most Wordle-like history game: eight guesses to find a year, with colors showing how close you are. Chronle does the same for putting events in order, Historydle for guessing a historical figure, and Dawn of Time for identifying a person from clues. For history plus geography, Wherio gives five events a day and a shareable result.
Every game here is a daily puzzle with feedback. The difference is the answer.

There is no universal winner. Each pick below says who it suits and where another game on the list does the job better.
Yeardle shows three events that happened in the same year and gives you eight guesses to name it. Each guess is colored by how close it is, though you decide whether to go higher or lower. It is the closest thing to Wordle for dates.

Chronle gives you a set of events and six moves to put them in order. Correct positions turn green after each attempt, exactly like Wordle letters. A free sign-in unlocks past puzzles.
Visit Chronle (opens in a new tab)Historydle works like the guess-the-character games: name a historical figure, and each guess is colored by era, region and role. Separate modes use a quote, a portrait or places. It is free and needs no account.
Visit Historydle (opens in a new tab)Chrondle reveals up to six clues about an event and asks for a year range. The tighter your range, the better your score, which adds a betting element Wordle does not have. It also has an ordering mode and an archive.

Dawn of Time reveals one clue per wrong guess: birth year, birthplace, death place, role and finally a portrait. Five guesses at most, and the fewer you need the better.

WhenTaken is from Worldle's studio. Five photos a day, each answered with a map pin and a year, and a score out of 1,000 to share.
Visit WhenTaken (opens in a new tab)Wherio is our game. Like Wordle, everyone gets the same puzzle each day and a colored result to share. Each of its five rounds is a written historical event, and you tap the country where it happened. Near misses still score, and every round ends with the story.
Compared with Wherio: Most history Wordles ask when or who. Wherio asks where, and scores by distance instead of right or wrong.
Play Wherio freeThe habits that help with Wordle carry over surprisingly well.
A first guess in the middle of the range, like 1800 in Yeardle, tells you the most. Halve the gap with each guess after that.
Colored attributes in Historydle eliminate eras and regions at once. Read all of them before guessing again.
In Wherio's own data, ancient events were not harder than modern ones. Well-known subjects are easy in any era, obscure ones are hard in any era.
Every game here has a spoiler-free share. Group chats keep streaks alive longer than willpower does.
Wherio keeps the parts of Wordle that make it a habit: one shared puzzle, a quick finish and a result to share. The difference is that each answer is a place in history.

Rachel Tublitz builds Wherio, so Wherio is on this list and marked as our game. Every other game was checked on its live site in October 2026 for format, cost, archive access and whether you need an account. The order reflects how well each game fits this particular search, not whether it competes with us.
